Business Development Manager (Digital Media Sales)

Position Overview

Clients in this space, such as convention & visitor bureaus (CVB's), museums, vacation rentals and management companies, hotels, multi-location restaurants and attractions, will rely on you to be the expert consultant and help them achieve their business goals. You'll leverage your critical thinking skills and creativity to develop innovative solutions, backed by the resources of Odyssey, a leader in the Travel & Tourism space.

Your chief product will be selling PLACES.TRAVEL, a groundbreaking consumer publication aimed at Millennial, Gen X and Gen Z travelers who want real, authentic travel stories.   We produce the world’s best hyper-local travel content and you’ll be the bridge to allow brands to participate in sponsorship and advertising. Soon, we’ll be adding CHANNELS by PLACES.TRAVEL, a first-ever approach to producing original “on air” digital television including shows, seasons, episodes and stars. 

This individual will meet with clients through a consultative needs-based selling approach to create custom digital advertising campaigns that exceed customer expectations. The product suite includes graphical display ads, video sponsorships and branded content offerings. 

You will be responsible for growing business and hitting revenue goals and through this full-time position, you’ll earn a livable base plus unlimited commissions. The ideal candidate will possess a technical acumen of digital and mobile platforms and methodologies along with a proven track record in advertising sales and marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Own the entire sales cycle to include aggressively prospecting, developing and closing leads using a variety of online and offline sources
  • Proactively identify new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, marketing, referrals, and lead databases
  • Qualify prospective customers and close deals over the phone or in person depending on customer engagement
  • Meet and exceed individual weekly, monthly and annual activity and sales goals
  • Prepares, or directs the preparation of, sales presentations and specific sales proposals for advertising prospects and clients
  • Ability to thrive in an autonomous working environment with minimal supervision while maintaining focus and productivity, meeting deadlines and showing relentless persistence in a competitive marketplace
  • Exceed established revenue goals
  • Serve as a marketing consultant by providing industry insights through up-to-date knowledge of industry trends

 

Qualifications

  • A track record of success in consultative, solution-oriented sales, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit
  • Experience selling digital media advertising is strongly preferred; at minimum you will need enthusiasm for digital advertising and the ability to learn quickly
  • Travel industry experience is a plus, but you should at least have a general understanding of what motivates people to travel
  • Comprehensive knowledge of needs-based selling
  • Proven success at increasing sales in a competitive marketplace
  • CRM sales management software experience with a leading platform
  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to achieve goals independently
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation abilities, including active listening skills
  • Solid organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, handle pressure and work under deadlines
  • Ability to act, partner and influence at varying levels within the organization; build long term relationships with diverse sets of partners
